Tournament & Competition

Competitive Bag Setup

Build a bag matched to the course and conditions.

Why it matters

The bag you carry into a tournament should be chosen for that course on that day, not assembled by habit. The two mistakes are carrying experiments and carrying duplicates — both of which turn a decision you should make quickly into one you make badly under pressure.

How to do it

  1. Walk or study the layout first, then pick the bag the course asks for.
  2. Bag for the forecast. A windy day wants more stable discs and heavier weights than a calm one.
  3. Carry only discs you trust. A tournament is not the place for a mould you are still learning.
  4. Remove duplicates that fly almost identically. Two discs doing one job is a decision you do not need at speed.
  5. Know what each disc in the bag does TODAY, in these conditions, rather than in general.

Common mistakes

Carrying a new disc to try out.Leave it at home. Every disc in a competitive bag should be one whose flight you can call before you throw it.
Bringing the same bag regardless of the course or weather.Pick for the layout and the forecast. A wooded course and an open one want different bags.
Carrying twenty discs so that everything is covered.Weight and decision time both cost. A tight bag of trusted discs beats a complete one you have to search.

Key points

The drill

Drill · Pack for the course — 1 bag chosen deliberately per event, written down before packing. Before your next event, write the list of discs and one line on what each is for on that layout. If you cannot write the line, the disc does not go. The list usually comes out shorter than your usual bag and the round feels simpler for it.
