Rules & Etiquette
Courtesy & Pace of Play
Keep the group moving and be a good playing partner.
Why it matters
Pace and courtesy cost no skill and decide whether people want to play with you. They also matter more than most players realise in a tournament, where slow play genuinely can be penalised and where the group behind is affected by every minute you take.
How to do it
- Stand still and silent behind the thrower, never in front and never in their eyeline.
- The player furthest from the basket throws first; on the tee, the best score on the previous hole goes first.
- Be ready when it is your turn: disc chosen, line decided, bag down.
- Walk to your disc while it is safe to do so, so you are not starting your decision when your turn arrives.
- Wave a faster group through rather than making them wait all round.
- Shout FORE immediately and loudly if a disc is heading anywhere near anyone.
Common mistakes
Key points
- Stay quiet and still while others throw.
- The player furthest from the target throws first.
- Be ready when it is your turn.
The drill
Drill · Ready when it is your turn — 1 round deciding every shot before your turn arrives. Play a round where you must have your disc in hand and your line chosen before it is your turn, every time. Notice how much faster the group moves and how much calmer your own throws feel without the decision being made under a waiting group’s gaze.
